Creating a faux rock pool waterfall: complete guide

    5 avril 20267 min read

A waterfall turns an ordinary pool into a true natural décor. The sound of water flowing over rock, the light reflections, the atmosphere of a Mediterranean cove… It is the dream of many pool owners.

Thanks to polyester faux rock, this dream is now within reach without the constraints of natural stone.

Why choose a faux rock waterfall?

    Striking realism

Poly Rock Concept waterfalls are made from silicone moulds taken from real rocks. Every stratum, crack and vein is reproduced with absolute fidelity. The result is indistinguishable from natural stone, even up close.

    Unmatched lightness

A natural stone waterfall weighs several tonnes and requires reinforced foundations. In polyester, weight is reduced by 80 to 90%. The waterfall can be installed on your pool's existing coping, with no civil engineering work.

    Total resistance

Fibreglass reinforced polyester resists chlorine, salt, UV, frost and permanent moisture. Your waterfall keeps its appearance for more than 20 years without maintenance.

    Fast installation

Where a stone waterfall requires several weeks of work, a faux rock waterfall is installed in a few days. No heavy masonry, no dust, no damage to your garden.

    The different types of waterfalls

    The wall waterfall

Fixed to an existing wall or retaining wall, the wall waterfall creates a vertical water curtain. It is ideal for pools backing onto a wall or a raised terrace.

    The overhang waterfall

Built on a rocky mound at the edge of the pool, it reproduces the effect of a natural waterfall. It is the most spectacular and sought-after model.

    The water sheet on rock

Water flows in a thin sheet over a smooth rocky surface. The effect is more refined and contemporary, perfect for modern architecture.

    The multi-level waterfall

Several rocky tiers create a succession of waterfalls, imitating a mountain stream. The sound effect is particularly soothing.

    The cave with waterfall

The waterfall is integrated into a faux rock cave, creating a shaded and mysterious space at the edge of the pool. This is the most immersive option.

    The creation process

    1. Project study

We analyse your pool, its environment, your wishes and your budget. We provide you with a sketch and a detailed quote.

    2. Workshop manufacturing

The waterfall's elements are manufactured in our Nice workshop from silicone moulds. Each piece is moulded, reinforced and hand-patinated.

    3. On-site installation

The elements are transported and assembled on site. The water circuit is connected to a dedicated pump or to the existing filtration system.

    4. Filling and adjustments

The waterfall is put into service. We adjust the flow rate, the flow direction and the integrated lighting for an optimal result.

    Lighting: a key element

A waterfall takes on its full dimension in the evening thanks to integrated lighting. The most common options:

  1. Submersible LED spotlights: light the waterfall from below.
  2. LED strips: highlight the contours of the rock.
  3. Adjustable projectors: create plays of shadow and light.
  4. RGB lighting: allows the colours to be changed depending on the mood.
  5. How much does a faux rock pool waterfall cost?

The price depends on the size, type and chosen options:

  6. Small wall waterfall (60-80 cm): from €2,500
  7. Overhang waterfall (1-1.5 m): from €4,000
  8. Multi-level waterfall (2-3 m): from €7,000
  9. Cave with waterfall: from €10,000
  10. These prices include manufacturing, patina and installation. The pump and hydraulic circuit may be extra depending on your existing installation.

    Mistakes to avoid

  11. Undersizing the pump: the flow rate must be suited to the fall height and the width of the water curtain.
  12. Ignoring the noise: a waterfall that is too high or too powerful can become bothersome. We calibrate the flow for a pleasant sound.
  13. Forgetting evaporation: a waterfall increases pool water evaporation. Plan for an automatic water top-up.
  14. Choosing an unsuitable material: shotcrete cracks, polystyrene degrades. Only reinforced polyester guarantees optimal durability in an aquatic environment.
  15. FAQ

Can a waterfall be added to an existing pool?

Yes, this is one of the main advantages of polyester faux rock. Its lightness allows it to be installed on existing coping or beaches with no structural modification. Discover our [pool solutions](/faux-rocher-piscine).

Does the waterfall increase electricity consumption?

The waterfall pump consumes on average 100 to 300 watts, costing a few euros per month. You can fit it with a timer to run it only at desired times.

    Does it require special maintenance?

No. Polyester is unaffected by chlorine, salt or algae. A simple hose rinse once or twice a year is enough.

Does the waterfall work with salt water?

Yes, fibreglass reinforced polyester is completely unaffected by salt. It is compatible with all types of water treatment.

What is the lifespan of a faux rock waterfall?

Over 20 years without deterioration or maintenance. The UV gel coat protects the surface against discolouration and weather damage.
